2018 Youth of the Year Representative - Keon

Keon has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club – Chippewa Falls Center since the Club opened in December in 2012. He credits the Club for keeping him on a positive path even when things around him were pulling him away from the positive Club influence. Keon began experiencing with drugs and alcohol to deal with some of his struggles and began coming to the Club less and less. During this time, he was suspended from school, which caused his use of drugs and alcohol to intensify. It was during these times, that Keon needed the Club the most as he soon recognized the negative influences were beginning to take over his life. It was then that Keon turned back to the Club for help. Slowly, through the efforts of the staff, life began to take a turn for the better again. As Keon states, “The staff at the Boys & Girls Club really cared about me, even when I was not choosing the best path for myself. They held me accountable and really cared about me and never gave up!” His time at the Club kept him away from those negative influences and eventually helped to regained his vision back on the path to his great future. Keon is like a big brother to many members here at the Club and many look up to him. He hopes to continue to work with youth even after his Club days are over as his experiences at the Club has lead him to a passion of working as a teacher.

Please help us in congratulating our December Member of the Month, John T.!

John is 9 years old, and has been a member at the Club since the beginning of this school year. John constantly exceeds our expectations when it comes to being kind to other members, participating in programs, and following directions! John is especially kind to all new members at the Club. John has a great way of helping new members always feel included.

John comes to the Club to meet new friends! On John's first day, a lot of the members helped him, and now when John meets new members, he always asks them to play with him. John's favorite program at the Club is Art and Computer Lab (Club Tech). In Club Tech, John enjoys playing Kahoot, coding, or playing other fun games. In Art, John's favorite art program was when members designed Minecraft monsters!

John said that the Club has helped him achieve better grades in school. By having homework time, John always gets his homework done. John also has the opportunity to ask questions about his homework if he gets stuck. John said that the best part of the Club is having the choosing which time slot he does his homework. John said that he likes to pick the first homework time slot so he can have free time before programming starts.

Congratulations, John T.!
