Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley - Chippewa Falls Center
2018 Youth of the Year Representative - Keon

Keon has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club – Chippewa Falls Center since the Club opened in December in 2012. He credits the Club for keeping him on a positive path even when things around him were pulling him away from the positive Club influence. Keon began experiencing with drugs and alcohol to deal with some of his struggles and began coming to the Club less and less. During this time, he was suspended from school, which caused his use of drugs and alcohol to intensify. It was during these times, that Keon needed the Club the most as he soon recognized the negative influences were beginning to take over his life. It was then that Keon turned back to the Club for help. Slowly, through the efforts of the staff, life began to take a turn for the better again. As Keon states, “The staff at the Boys & Girls Club really cared about me, even when I was not choosing the best path for myself. They held me accountable and really cared about me and never gave up!” His time at the Club kept him away from those negative influences and eventually helped to regained his vision back on the path to his great future. Keon is like a big brother to many members here at the Club and many look up to him. He hopes to continue to work with youth even after his Club days are over as his experiences at the Club has lead him to a passion of working as a teacher.

Please help us in congratulating our September Member of the Month, Shianne H.!

Shianne is 9 years old, and has been a member since spring of 2018. Shianne has been a fantastic role model for the rest of the members by working hard and always offering to help staff. Shianne even goes out of her way to help other members with their homework during homework time.

Shianne comes to the Boys & Girls Club because it is a fun and safe place to go while her parents are at work. She also loves hanging out with her friends at the Club! Shianne's favorite program at the Club is Healthy Habits, because she gets to learn about different health foods, like fruits and vegetables. Healthy Habits also teaches her different ways to prepare healthy snacks.

Shianne said that the Club has helped her improve her math skills, because staff is always there to help her with her homework. The Club has also helped her to make new friends, and has taught her to be helpful towards other members and staff! Shianne thinks that the Youth Center is the best part of the Club because it is a great place to play with her friends. There are always a lot of games and activities to participate in!

Congratulations, Shianne H.!

Meet our Advisory Council Member of the Month

Skip August!

We would like to highlight our Advisory Council Member of the Month, Skip August!  Skip has been a true backbone of the Chippewa Falls Boys & Girls Clubs.  In 2011, he was approached by Dennis Heyde at an event at the Heyde Center for Arts about starting a Boys & Girls Club in Chippewa Falls. Being a Boys Scout leader and educator, he felt an urge to follow up on Heyde's lead.  Skip pursuit it and was one of the founding members of the Club, and still is an active Advisory Club member today.  He loves attending and being part of all the Clubs Events, and has no favorite, stating "They're all fun!"  Skip is retired from Cray Research/SGI and MACS and is busier now than ever.  In his past 11 years of retirement, he finds total satisfaction from volunteering and loves the appreciation.  Skip also loves to tell people that volunteering is not only helpful to organization, but he gets total satisfaction, there's little or no politics, and I can take vacation whenever I want, and they double my salary every day.  We truly appreciate you at the Club Skip and appreciate your time and dedication to The Boys & Girls Club- Chippewa Falls!  You make a difference.
