When Aubrie first attended the Boys & Girls Club, she struggled to do her homework and complete tasks. The staff would spend hours each day getting her back on track by answering questions, helping her with her homework, holding her accountable for missing assignments, and ensuring that she could turn her work in on time. With the Club’s extensive training and relationship-based approach, the staff worked in positive reinforcement, recognized her successes (both big and small), and built rapport with her. To create cohesiveness and the best result for Aubrie, Club staff reached out to Aubrie’s counselor, teacher, and mother to create a plan and set expectations. This also opened communication to learn about her notable wins and growth that she began to show consistently.
